They lead initiatives, diversity projects, cybersecurity, country email list business development, recruiting, human resources, and numerous other functions – in short, legal counsel is doing more and more besides providing legal and strategic advice. There is a trend of large legal departments to hire young lawyers, sometimes even recent graduates. This would never have happened in the past. Also, legal departments organize a greater number of internship programs and train students to work in the firm. All this was done only by law firms. Finally, legal departments are becoming increasingly sophisticated consumers of legal services. They store their data and build their own data centers.
Thus, I no longer share this information with law firms. They have become much more sophisticated about fee setting and hiring and outsourcing decisions. These departments choose who to hire, inside or outside the United States, or even whether to use a given technology solution. This is just the beginning of the trend and we live in an exciting time for which we must prepare. To succeed in this new type of legal department, the Socratic method must be rethought, students today. Thus, a trend of apprenticeships and professional training would have more relevance. Fourth trend: legal advisors and lawyers for the position of CEO (executive officer) An increasing number of legal advisers and lawyers are expected to be proposed for the coveted CEO position. With the development of legal departments in companies, this change is natural. Legal advisors sit in the middle of all other functions and handle many business teams.
